Little Ghent

The city of Gent is one of the most charming, old world cities I have ever visited. I especially love the beautiful architecture, the skinny cobbled side streets and the smell of freshly made liege waffles.

My husband was fortunate enough to grow up in this lovely city and laughs every time I’m in awe finding castles in the middle of “downtown.” I grew up in Vancouver, where there is certainly no ancient buildings to be found. The most picturesque architecture can be found at the Graslei. It is one of my favourite streets in the city and you can see why. It’s like Disneyland here!

Finally, the vacation we’ve been waiting for all year long! Our Hawaiimoon! We arrived really late/early this morning (around 2am) and pretty much just slept right away. The drive from the airport to the hotel was in pure darkness (there were no street lights), so we didn’t really know what was around us until we saw this view on our way to breakfast:

The one thing I noticed right away here is that the greenery is so vibrant. The grass is a lot brighter and almost looks.. fake! Driving through the winding roads and seeing the vastness of the landscape reminds me so much of the Windows wallpaper! You know the one I’m talking about!
